Lust & Lies begins right where Duty & Desire ends Lenora stands on a knife's edge with her husband, the Emperor Averys, and his chief advisor, Barentyn. Will they discover that Lenora's daughter, the heir to the throne, is the assassin Nathanial’s child and not the impotent Emperor's? Every move Lenora makes is scrutinized, and doubly so with her daughter, whose head she must keep covered. After all, who else has red hair but the assassin of Kienia?
In spite of the knife's edge, Lenora begins to earn Averys' trust. Not only does he appoint her to his political advisory committee, he even puts her to work. Lenora soon has a desk in the office next to Averys' with a host of paperwork to work through. While it may just be a ploy to keep his own piles from toppling, Lenora makes the most of her chance to further endear herself to an unimpressible husband. Of course, Barentyn, Averys' lover and perhaps something much more sinister, resists her at all turns, but this isn't the timid Lenora from Duty & Desire.
In fact, when Lenora is commanded to find a wife for Nathanial, she soon learns the task she most despises may gain her a unique position in the palace’s web of sexual and political intrigue – power. The wife she selects is as ready to please the Emperor and any command, as she is Lenora and any desire. The author also introduces a heady rush of BDSM play into the novel. Averys’ trust in Lenora’s stateship capabilities apparently extends to sexual escapades that involve a thorough review of flogs and chains. The author handles the scenes, and more importantly, Lenora’s growth as a result of her sexual experiences, with a deft hand.
I’m particularly impressed with how E.C. Jarvis wove the pacing and tension throughout Lust & Lies. There is, of course, a low-lying level of intrigue with respect to Lenora’s love child and her affair. But more than this, there is Lenora’s butting heads with Barentyn, Lenora's growing belief that something is very wrong with her husband, and Lenora’s increasing power, which seems to be upsetting someone greatly. All of it is put together in a delightful, utterly readable tale.
Lust & Lies nearly gallops to the end, which is as cataclysmic as one might expect when the sex is as readily had as the death threats. I’m thoroughly excited about the third and final book in the Consort Chronicles to discover just what sort of hero Lenora is. And just what kind of villain Barentyn is.

Lady Lenora and the Emperor are back in book 2 with more adventures. Even though Lenora is the wife of Avery her heart will forever be with the assassin Nathaniel. And with it brings a child, but how long can she pass their daughter off as the Emperors. And what happens when it all comes crashing down..Squeal...
Lenora has been given the task of finding Nathaniel a wife, someone who can bear children for him. The emperor's line of assassins needs to be rebuilt with good stock, (snort,lol) and Nathaniel is of good breed. ( Omg, I couldn't even imagine having to try and do this for the man you loved) yikes, but she chooses, lol, wait till you discover her reasons behind it.
A confrontation, A secret uncovered and more steamy scenes than before makes this one such a great read.

I was very excited to see the second book in this series. Jarvis's first book was so hot and engaging that I couldn't wait to devour this one. Of course we're taken on the journey with Lenora after she has her daughter and as we go through her sexploits to garner a son. However, this book fell a bit flat for me. It almost felt like it was simply the segue to the third book in the series. I was hoping for more to happen. There is hint of wars and conflicts and other bad behaviors, but most of them happen 'off screen'.
I enjoyed it, and think that Jarvis is an incredibly talented author, but this book just didn't do it for me as much. I'm hoping that book three returns to the excitement and intrigue that book one delivered.
